Oakland International Airport to trial Liberty Defense HEXWAVE screening

Liberty Defense Holdings Ltd., a technology provider of AI-based detection solutions for concealed weapons and threats, has announced that the Port of Oakland will undertake a customer evaluation of the HEXWAVE system for possible use in employee screening at its Oakland International Airport facilities.

The Port of Oakland, located in the San Francisco Bay area, oversees the Oakland International Airport, the Oakland Seaport and nearly 20 miles of waterfront commercial holdings. With its business partners, the Port supports more than 84,000 jobs in the region with more than a $130 billion economic impact.

Improving security

“We are always looking for ways to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to operating the airport securely and efficiently. We were impressed by the HEXWAVE’s detection of threats beyond just metallic ones and its potential to enhance our current employee security screening,” said Douglas Mansel, Aviation Security Manager at the Port of Oakland. “We look forward to working with Liberty Defense and the potential security innovation the HEXWAVE would bring to the airport.”

HEXWAVE

HEXWAVE uses millimeter wave, advanced 3D imaging and AI to detect concealed metallic and non-metallic weapons such as liquid, plastic and powder explosives, 3D-printed guns and other prohibited items – without having to divest common items like cell phones or keys. The system allows for rapid, automated screening using a high-throughput, contactless, walkthrough portal.

“As airports continue to look at improving screening protocols, the HEXWAVE technology offers a flexible solution that can be quickly deployed and moved to multiple areas inside and outside of facilities,” said Bill Frain, CEO of Liberty Defense. “We are thrilled that the Port of Oakland will be working with Liberty Defense to use the HEXWAVE to enhance their employee screening process.”
